Can’t Find My Way Home” is a song originally written by the legendary Steve Winwood. This song is released in 1969 by the British rock band Blind Faith on their first and only studio album with the same name.

Many have speculated about the true meaning behind the lyrics of the song. Some say this Steve is singing about a break-up or the meaning of life. While others claim that it’s about war and death. The most well-known interpretation of “Can’t Find My Way Home” is that it’s merely a song about drugs.

If we look carefully, “Come down off your throne and leave your body alone” might be saying: “Get down from that grand illusion and just stop taking drugs and doing this to your body!”

The following lines, “You are the reason I’ve been waiting all these years, somebody holds the key” can be interpreted as: “Drugs were the reason why I can’t move on and I need someone to help me!”

Anyway, we didn’t write this song and we can only guess what is behind the lyrics. It’s clear that this song is a beautiful blues song and can refer to a number of things. It might as well be a track about self-rediscovery and trying to change your life after you’ve made a series of bad choices. Drugs might be just one small part of it.

We all make mistakes, take wrong turns and as a result, can’t find our way back home. The important thing is to be sane, realize what’s wrong and try to seek help.

Over the years this song has been covered many times by many musicians. So, today we would like to share a new cover version of this song by an amazing and phenomenal Macedonian duo. A band that you already know from our blog.

Various musicians of different genres, including hard rock, soul, and pop, recorded their own interpretations of this song. We can easily conclude that “Can’t Find My Way Home” turned out to be an inspiration for many younger generations of musicians.

Besides all the covers, we can definitely say that the one from 1988 by Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler is the most famous version of this song. We want to share that video today because it is really rare. This performance is recorded on September 21st, 1988, during Clapton’s 25th Anniversary Tour in Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, San Francisco, USA.

It’s old recorded footage 34-years-ago, and nowadays it’s really hard to find this performance on any digital recording. We need to save all these kinds of videos and keep them alive. You’ll see that in the video Clapton and Knopfler are in their middle ages, and their performance is legendary.

Besides Mark on guitar and Eric on guitar and vocals, on the scene are also:

  • Nathan East on bass guitar,
  • Alan Clark on keyboards,
  • Steve Ferrone on drums,
  • Jody Linscott on percussion, and Tessa Niles and Katie Kissoon as backing vocals.

Enjoy listening to the video below, and have a great day!
