Dire Straits fans have another important release to look forward to this autumn.
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of On Every Street, Dire Straits’ sixth and final studio album will receive a new SDE-exclusive Blu-ray Audio edition on October 16, 2026.
The release brings the album into the era of immersive audio with a brand-new Dolby Atmos mix by Guy Fletcher, alongside a new stereo remaster prepared by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.
The disc also includes an instrumental Atmos version of the complete album, marking the first time On Every Street has been presented in instrumental form.
A New Way to Hear “On Every Street”
Originally released in 1991, On Every Street became Dire Straits’ sixth studio album and their final studio recording.
The album continued the band’s evolution after the enormous success of Brothers in Arms, combining Mark Knopfler’s distinctive guitar playing with a more mature and carefully produced sound.
It features several songs that became staples of the Dire Straits catalogue, including “Calling Elvis,” “Heavy Fuel,” “On Every Street,” and “The Bug.”
The album reached No. 1 in the UK and in several European countries, while its accompanying world tour became one of the largest chapters in the band’s live history.
The 14-month On Every Street Tour included more than 210 concerts, reaching more than 3.5 million people across 22 countries.
Now, more than three decades later, the album is being revisited from a completely different sonic perspective.
Guy Fletcher Creates the New Dolby Atmos Mix
For Dire Straits fans, one of the most exciting parts of the new edition is the involvement of Guy Fletcher.
A longtime Dire Straits member and close collaborator of Mark Knopfler, Fletcher has become increasingly involved in immersive audio projects in recent years.
His new Atmos mix of On Every Street allows individual instruments and musical elements to occupy a much larger three-dimensional sound field. The purpose is not simply to make the album louder or more dramatic.
Instead, immersive mixing can reveal details that are less obvious in a traditional stereo presentation. Guitar parts, keyboards, drums, vocals and other elements can occupy different positions within the listening space.
For an album as richly produced as On Every Street, that creates an opportunity to rediscover familiar songs in a completely new way.
The 2026 Stereo Remaster by Miles Showell
The Blu-ray also includes a 2026 stereo remaster by renowned mastering engineer Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.
This gives listeners an alternative to the Atmos presentation while preserving the familiar stereo format that generations of Dire Straits fans already know.
According to SDE, the 2026 stereo remaster is not a limited audio source and is also intended as the source for a forthcoming vinyl version of the album.
That makes the new release interesting even for listeners who do not have a Dolby Atmos system.
The First Instrumental Version of “On Every Street”
Another major attraction is the inclusion of the complete album in an Atmos instrumental mix. This is the first time On Every Street has officially been made available in instrumental form.
For guitar players and music enthusiasts, that could be particularly interesting.
Without the vocals occupying the center of attention, listeners can focus more closely on Mark Knopfler’s guitar arrangements, rhythm sections, keyboards, drums and the subtle production details surrounding each song.
The new format effectively turns a familiar album into a fresh listening experience.

There is something fitting about revisiting On Every Street in 2026. The album was created at a time when recording technology was changing rapidly.
More than three decades later, new spatial-audio technology allows engineers to revisit those original recordings with an entirely different set of possibilities.

The new On Every Street edition is part of the Super Deluxe Edition Surround Series and is being released as an SDE-exclusive Blu-ray Audio title.
The disc is region-free and contains the three main audio presentations: the 2026 Dolby Atmos Mix, the 2026 Dolby Atmos Instrumental Mix, and the 1991 Original Stereo Mix remastered for 2026.
