Italian guitarist Carmine D’Onofrio continues to impress Dire Straits fans with his passion for Mark Knopfler’s distinctive guitar style.

Originally from Naples and now based in Parma, Italy, Carmine first picked up the guitar after discovering the music of Dire Straits.

Over the years, he has shared several performances inspired by Mark Knopfler, and we have previously featured four of his videos here on Dire Straits Blog. Today, we’re pleased to highlight another excellent performance.

A Beautiful “Down to the Waterline” Guitar Solo

This time, Carmine performs the outro solo from Dire Straits’ classic song “Down to the Waterline.” Although the video lasts just 1 minute and 33 seconds, it captures the feel and emotion of the original performance.

For this cover, Carmine plays a 2007 Fender Stratocaster Mexico. His clean tone, expressive phrasing, and confident fingerpicking style reflect the influence of Mark Knopfler while still showcasing his own musical personality.

A Performance Worth Watching

Carmine’s attention to detail is evident throughout the performance. His technique is smooth, the timing is precise, and the dynamics closely match the spirit of the original recording.

In our opinion, the sound, expression, and overall feel make this a cover that deserves recognition from every Dire Straits fan. If you enjoy this performance, be sure to explore more of Carmine’s work.
