Mark Freuder Knopfler was born on August 12, 1949, in Glasgow, Scotland. His roots are from the Jewish-Hungarian family, especially his father Erwin Knopfler. Today is a big day for celebrating because 72-years ago Mark Knopfler was born.
His life is like a musical journey because his sympathies for music were evident from an early age. At first, Mark was inspired by his uncle Kingsley’s harmonica and boogie-woogie piano playing. Soon he became familiar with many different styles of music.
In the early 1960s, Mark received his first Fiesta Red Fender Stratocaster guitar. From that moment on, Mark Knopfler began his youth career. During those years he formed and joined several music bands. He also listened to the music of Elvis Presley, Chat Atkins, Scotty Moore, B.B. King, Hank Marvin, and James Burton.
At sixteen years of age, he made a local television appearance as part of the harmony duo, with his classmate Sue Hercombe. After studying journalism for a year and being a part of the Yorkshire Evening Post, Mark decided to continue with his passion – music. By the mid-1970s, Knopfler moved in with his brother David and John Illsley.
From 1978 to 1990 there are a series of historical moments in his career. Classic hit songs, Top Charts around the world, big concerts, a lot of audiences, and fans were a part of Mark’s career with Dire Straits.
After the band has disbanded in 1995, Mark decided to start a solo career that would lead him to many collaborations with world-known musicians and guitarists. In 2018 Mark had his last world tour with his newest album called, “Down the Road Wherever.”
To sum up, Mark Knopfler gave to this world numerous classic hit songs and inspiration to the newest generations! And not even that, he is also one of the top songwriters too on this world!
Happy Birthday, Mark we wish you all the best!
