On April 27, 2016 – Mark Knopfler joined John McCusker and his band on stage to perform ‘Haul Away’ song at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom.
Namely, Mark Knopfler performed the song together with John McCusker, Phil Cunningham and Michael McGoldrick. John McCusker is a folk musician which that year, he received the Good Tradition award for 2016.
“It’s been a great honor to me to have this three beautiful, I should…I was gonna say old souls, because that’s you know, but they’ve actually they have, they are all delightfully young at heart and is fantastic to be out with and wonderful to be playing music with them,” said Mark Knopfler at the ceremony.
This song is about four minutes long and is from the Knopfler’s seventh solo studio album ‘Privateering’ released in September 2012. For this album Knopfler enlisted the help of several session players including Jerry Douglas, Glenn Worf as well as John McCusker and Michael McGoldrick.
Michael McGoldrick is Irish folk musician who plays on Irish flute, he also plays on other instruments such as acoustic guitar and mandolin. Phil Cunningham is Scottish folk musician and composer who plays on many instruments, but his main is accordion. John McCusker is also Scottish folk musician, producer and composer who plays on violin, tin whistle, cittern and guitar. They are all good old friends of Mark Knopfler.
