The lead singer and guitarist from the band BOOM, Like That, is back again with another beautiful cover video. Namely, Edgar Janssen, last time shared with us his amazing performance for the song “Sailing to Philadelphia,” by Mark Knopfler. Click here if you want to check out that video.
This time, our dear friend and a loyal fan are back again with another cover video for the song “Sultans of Swing.” Edgar has made some cover videos in his home studio, and this one is his newest.
As he said, “Sultans of Swing” was a trigger song for him to start with playing the guitar. “I played this song (only the guitar part) in my first cover bands. But, I was not allowed to sing it because the other members just said how I can’t sing at all. I always expected that. In 2012 we did our farewell concert with the band after 25 years and I claimed to sing this song. It was a great success!”
“Two years later I started my own Dire Straits Band Boom, Like That. The first song we rehearsed was of course this one. Now, the band is very successful and we mainly play in theatres about 25 shows in a year. Unfortunately, because of Coronavirus, we were not allowed to rehearse and perform on stage,” he added.
To kill some time in the lockdown, Edgar started with home recordings. “In the beginning, I just play along with the original track and recording the audio with an iPhone microphone. Is was okay but the audio quality was not great. I decided to make a small investment to record the audio directly with the digital iPhone input. The audio was much better. I started with the song “The Bug” and a backing track and several camera positions.”
“I was very pleased with the result. After that, I recorded “Sailing to Philadelphia.” I played more instruments acoustic guitar, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, and both vocals. I was more than happy with the result but I wanted more and wanted it to be better. The next project was “Sultans of Swing.” I decided to play all instruments by myself, even the bass guitar but except the drum part,” he added.
“I found a nice drum part on the internet, recorded the bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, lead vocals, and backing vocals. So, I tried to stay as close to the original studio album version. I hope you like it,” he finished.
