Guitar players around the world often use music as a way to stay creative, especially during challenging times. French guitarist Francois Lepage showed exactly that spirit when he shared two interesting videos with his fans, including a guitar improvisation and a special cover performance with his son.

Francois is already known among Dire Straits fans as the frontman of the French cover band Ripley.

The band performs songs by Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler, and also their own original material. He also became known in the Dire Straits community after meeting Mark Knopfler in Bordeaux, France.

Francois Lepage’s Gibson Guitar Improvisation

During the quarantine period, Francois decided to record a short improvisation session in his living room. The nearly four-minute video shows his guitar skills and the beautiful sustain of his Gibson guitar.

For this performance, Francois used a special Gibson model and shared some details about the instrument:

“The G0 is a special run of R0 made for Guitar Center. This guitar has a plain maple top instead of the flamed top of the standard R0,” he explained.

The video is a great example of how guitarists can stay inspired and continue creating music even from home. With simple improvisation, Francois highlights the character and sound of his instrument.

Besides his guitar improvisation, Francois also shared a personal cover performance with his son Augustin Lepage. Together, they performed “Don’t Pull Me Over” by Tom Petty from the album Mojo.

The performance became even more special because Augustin joined his father on lead guitar.

“I’m so proud of my son Augustin. He played the lead guitar on an early 80s Schecter Stratocaster Van Nuys. The Danelectro guitar was a gift for my 40th birthday from my good friend Stephane L.,” Francois said.
