Mike DiFiore Performs “A Night In Summer Long Ago”

In his latest cover, Mike DiFiore performs “A Night In Summer Long Ago”, a song originally written and performed by Mark Knopfler.

Mike uploaded the video on April 29, 2026, and presents a personal and creative interpretation of this beautiful song.

Instead of creating only a simple guitar and vocal cover, Mike decided to expand the arrangement by adding several additional instruments. The result is a unique version that highlights his musical imagination and attention to detail.

A Unique Multi-Instrument Performance

Speaking about the recording process, Mike explained that he originally planned to record only a live guitar and vocal version. However, as the project developed, he decided to add more elements and create a fuller arrangement using multiple tracks.

Mike also shared an interesting detail about the instruments used in the recording:

“I was planning to just do a live guitar and vocal cover of this, but then I wanted to add a few bits, so I multitracked it. Just to clarify, I have never played the harmonica nor the accordion before! I just felt that these would be the most appropriate instruments to use that I had to hand.”

One of the most special parts of the performance is the accordion. The instrument belonged to Mike’s grandfather and had not been played for around 30 years.

Although it needs restoration and an overhaul, Mike decided to bring it back to life and include its unique sound in this recording.

Keeping Mark Knopfler’s Musical Spirit Alive

One of the strongest elements of Mark Knopfler’s songwriting is the ability to create atmosphere and tell a story through music.

Mike DiFiore’s version of “A Night In Summer Long Ago” respects that spirit while adding his own personal touch.

His arrangement shows that great music can continue to inspire new interpretations years after its original release.

For Mark Knopfler fans, performances like this are a reminder of how powerful and timeless his songwriting remains.
