Francois Lepage is from Bordeaux, France, early this year in May in Bordeaux he had a special moment. Namely, Francois shares with all of us his story of how he met Mark Knopfler in Bordeaux.

For Dire Straits Blog he said: “I’m quite happy and lucky about this very special moment. This May I met Mark Knopfler in Bordeaux. This was the “real deal” because he signed my guitar. The guitar that I have is roughly similar to the one that Mark Knopfler played on the Alchemy.”

Francois is 49-years-old and he is currently living in Bordeaux. He grew up listening to Dire Strait’s music since 1983. His favorite guitarists are Mark Knopfler and Jeff Beck.

“I discovered my passion for the electric guitars thanks to the Alchemy album. That album for me represents the Holy Grail, with the unique guitar style of Mark Knopfler,” he added.

“I’m the lucky owner of two Schecter Dream Machine guitars. One of them is a copy of the Sunburst Strat that Mark plays on Telegraph Road and Tunnel of Love. The other one guitar is the Schecter Van Nuys – a red metallic that Mark Knopfler signed for me in Bordeaux when I met him. This is a very rare guitar,” he added.

Apart from this, Francois is also the lead guitarist and singer in the cover band called Ripley in Bordeaux.

“Our setlist has many songs from Dire Straits including, ‘Sultans of Swing,’ ‘Once Upon a Time in The West,’ ‘Down to the Waterline,’ ‘Money for Nothing,’ and ‘Six Blade Knife,” he finished. You can check the pictures from Francois Lepage below.
