Josip Susic is a musician and guitarist from Croatia, also he is a longtime fan of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler.
Today, we’d like to share his newest music video for his instrumental song called “Sun’s Out For You”. He said he drew deep inspiration from rock legends Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Page, and Tommy Emmanuel. Keep reading this blog post to discover more about his instrumental track.
Until now, we wrote two blog posts about Josip and his acoustic cover versions of the songs by Dire Straits. Namely, Josip has made a guitar cover for the song “Going Home” which we shared on our blog on March 25, 2021.
On June 16, 2021, we published the second video cover, where Josip shared his cover version of the song “Your Latest Trick” with our fans. Now, we’re really happy to welcome him back again to our blog.
According to Josip’s words, this time he had many obligations on all sides. But as he mentioned in our last correspondence, he found time to record some original music. Namely, on July 7, 2023, he released his latest instrumental track, and he filmed the video at the beautiful Krka National Park in Croatia.
“It is a guitar-centered instrumental, and it is in essence just a positive tune representing a day in life. With an emphasis on melodies and harmony, featuring both acoustic and electric guitars. This instrumental track has a slightly retro vibe. It starts with gentle acoustic guitars and goes into an electric beat. And then, into a finale I have a stronger guitar solo,” he said.
In addition, the song was written, produced, arranged, programmed, and played all the instruments by Josip Susic. Also, the song has been mixed and mastered at the renowned studio called “Shishmish” (Translation: The Bat in Croatian) in Velika Gorica, which is near Zagreb, Croatia.
Josip added: “We recorded the video at the remarkable National Park Krka in Croatia. We extend our special thanks to them for providing the location. And if you are around Croatia, don’t miss Krka – click here!”

About the composition from Josip’s perspective
In this deeply introspective piece, Josip offers us a unique glimpse into the creative process behind his composition, “Sun’s Out For You.”
“The song started as an acoustic arrangement which I’ve had for several years. And there is a guitar-only version of it waiting to be recorded,” he said. Initially conceived as an acoustic arrangement he had cherished for years, Josip found himself pleasantly surprised when the studio session brought forth an unexpected transformation into a full-band song.
“The very end of the song is a small homage to Mark Knopfler. So, the ones with a sharper ear might recognize the familiar guitar pattern and interval used so often in Mark’s songs. Especially in his solo era,” Josip added.
His musical journey took an interesting turn as he paid homage to his major influences. Mark Knopfler, Tommy Emmanuel, and Jimmy Page are some of them. Josip’s admiration for these guitar virtuosos shines through in his work. He skillfully weaves their distinct styles into his own.
“I never tried to copy anyone, but inevitably years of listening and practicing sneak into your fingers somehow. It’s how you get better, you take something good, mix it up, and add a bit of your own. And eventually, something completely new comes out,” Josip finished.
The result is a captivating fusion of different influences, producing something entirely fresh and original. “Sun’s Out For You” stands as a testament to the transformative power of music. This is also the profound impact that legendary artists can have on an individual’s creative journey.
