Croatian guitarist and songwriter Josip Susic has a special connection with the music of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits.
A lifelong fan of Knopfler’s guitar style, Josip has spent years creating his own interpretations of songs that inspired him to pick up the guitar. His acoustic arrangement of “Going Home” is another beautiful example of his passion for Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler’s music.
Josip’s musical project is called “Samo Moment”, which translates as “Just a Moment.” Through this project, he has released original music as well as several guitar covers inspired by his favorite artists.

Speaking about his musical journey, Josip explained:
“I’m a 33-year-old guitar player and songwriter from Croatia and a lifelong Mark Knopfler fan. I started playing because of Mark and whenever I get time I record a YouTube video of some of his songs.”
His covers have gradually developed as he continues to improve both the audio and visual quality of his recordings.
“Going Home” – An Acoustic Mark Knopfler Tribute
For this performance, Josip created his own acoustic arrangement of **“Going Home.” **The song is one of Mark Knopfler’s most recognizable compositions and originally appeared as the main theme of the 1983 film Local Hero.
Over the years, “Going Home” has become closely associated with Knopfler’s guitar style and remains a favorite among his fans.
Josip chose to perform the entire arrangement fingerstyle and live, allowing the acoustic guitar to carry the melody and rhythm without relying on additional instruments.
For the recording, he used a Yamaha AC3M acoustic guitar. The result is an intimate interpretation that focuses on the melody, phrasing, and emotional character of the original composition.
Playing “Going Home” Fingerstyle and Live
One of the most interesting aspects of Josip’s version is the way he approaches the arrangement. Instead of simply reproducing the original recording, he adapts the composition for a single acoustic guitar. This allows him to combine melody, rhythm, and accompaniment within one performance.
Josip explained that he tries to improve the quality of every new video he records.
“Each time I try to upgrade the quality of video and audio. The latest video is my acoustic arrangement for the ‘Going Home,’ and everything is played fingerstyle and live.”
This approach makes the performance particularly interesting for guitar players who want to explore the possibilities of fingerstyle arrangements.
“Samo Moment” – Josip Susic’s Musical Project
Josip is also the creator of the musical project “Samo Moment” (“Just a Moment”).
Before sharing his Dire Straits covers, he released an original studio album featuring songs he composed between 2009 and 2014. The recordings were made during 2014 and 2015.
The project gives listeners an opportunity to discover another side of Josip’s musical personality beyond his Mark Knopfler-inspired performances.
His original material also demonstrates his interest in songwriting and creating music of his own. Josip has recorded several covers of songs associated with Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. His performances are more than simple recreations. They reflect the influence that Knopfler’s music has had on Josip’s development as a guitarist and songwriter.
