One of the most beautiful themes composed by Mark Knopfler is definitely the theme song from the movie Local Hero, “Going Home.”

Antonio Castrovillari is a 46-years-old dentist from Cosenza, a city in the south of Italy. Exclusive for Dire Straits Blog, he said that the music of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits accompanies him for thirty years. Since his high school and teenager’s days, he enjoys listening to the music of Dire Straits.

Today, we would like to present to you his first and official acoustic arrangement for the song “Going Home” by Mark Knopfler which he did for the movie Local Hero.

“In this period of forced lockdown, I had the time to be able to elaborate an arrangement for the acoustic guitar of the song Going Home, which has always been among the most exciting for me that Mark Knopfler has ever written,” he said.

“I had a very deep passion for this kind of music. Back at the time, that motivated me to start to learn to play on a guitar. I listen without prejudice to almost all musical genres, but in my heart, the guitar notes of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits as a band are indelible which as a teenager led me to want to learn to play the guitar,” he added.

Antonio also told us that if he must choose one song from Dire Straits, that would be the song “Telegraph Road” the version from the Alchemy Live album. At this moment he has just this cover video, but in the future, he will do more. Besides that, Antonio has a music group called Peppa Marriti Band and they make ethno-rock music.

Take a look at the full 4-minutes Antonio’s acoustic arrangement down below and enjoy this wonderful melody. The video is published on April 29, 2020, in the official YouTube channel of Antonio Castrovillari.
