“Stardust” (2020) is a biographical drama about one of the most influential musicians in music history: David Bowie.

The role of David Bowie was played by Johnny Flynn, an actor and musician who has released several albums throughout his own career.
To portray Bowie during this specific period, Flynn lost around 15 kilograms. At the time represented in the film, Bowie had a very thin appearance and reportedly weighed less than 50 kilograms.
Flynn also contributed musically to the project, creating a new song inspired by the sound and atmosphere of Bowie’s early career.
The movie also features lesser-known arrangements that Bowie performed during his 1971 tour in the United States.
A Different Approach to Telling Bowie’s Story
One of the biggest challenges for Stardust was the absence of original David Bowie songs.
Bowie’s family did not support the project and distanced themselves from the film. As a result, the movie was created without access to his original recordings.
