Music has the unique ability to connect different generations and styles. Sometimes, a creative arrangement can completely transform a familiar song.

In this special cover, musician Laszlo Buring reimagines Coldplay’s “Clocks” as if the song had been written by Dire Straits.

The result is a unique version that combines the atmosphere of Coldplay’s original track with the recognizable guitar style and musical character associated with Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler.

How Laszlo Buring Created the Dire Straits Style Arrangement

To achieve the desired sound, Laszlo started by recreating the famous synthesizer feeling from Dire Straits’ “So Far Away” using his guitar.

He kept the original key of the song but lowered the vocal register to make it fit better with Mark Knopfler’s vocal style.

Laszlo also added subtle harmonies during the chorus and gradually built the drum arrangement. The intensity increases after the first chorus, creating a more dynamic progression throughout the song.

Following the structure of the original track, Laszlo added a bridge section after the second chorus. This section includes a key change that allowed him to introduce a powerful guitar solo.

For the final solo, he created a sound inspired by Dire Straits’ “Brothers in Arms” style. He switched to his Les Paul guitar and added distortion to achieve the desired tone.

Guitars Used for the Coldplay “Clocks” Cover

For this arrangement, Laszlo used two different guitars to create the various layers of sound.

The rhythm guitar parts were recorded with a Fender Vintera Stratocaster.

For the guitar solo, he used an Epiphone Les Paul Classic, which helped him achieve the heavier and more expressive tone needed for the final section.

The combination of different guitars helped him capture the contrast between the clean Dire Straits-inspired parts and the powerful solo.

Coldplay “Clocks” Reimagined as Dire Straits

Laszlo Buring’s version of “Clocks” shows how a familiar song can receive a completely new identity through creative arrangement and musicianship.

His attention to detail, choice of guitars, and understanding of Dire Straits’ sound make this cover a fascinating experience for fans of both Coldplay and Mark Knopfler’s music.

We look forward to seeing what Laszlo creates next.
