Jake Thistle - 2019 - Romeo and Juliet - Acoustic Cover Version

The last time when we wrote something for Jake Thistle was in 2018 when he made an acoustic version of “Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits. You can watch that by clicking here.

Until now, we know that he is a big fan of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler. He has shown us that before. Namely, Jake is our friend since 2017 when we started with this blog. He was 13-years-old then and he fascinated us with his performances and talent that he has.

Earlier this year, he made a new acoustic cover version by the song “Romeo and Juliet” by Dire Straits. For Dire Straits Blog he said:

“I wanted to do something for Mark Knopfler’s birthday, so I tried something I never did before, “Romeo and Juliet”. I thought I’d share it with all your fans and followers, and I hope that they will like it. It’s my honor to do this for Mark’s birthday.”

“I’m 15 now, and Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler are still my big influence. He has such a unique style and amazing songs. I try to learn as much as I can. I never had any real guitar lessons, so I look at his videos and try to learn from the guys who can really do it! I was inspired for this version by a version that he did not that long ago for BBC Radio, but I never like to totally copy things and try to put a little of myself in there, just to make it feel real for me,” he added.

“I recorded this cover version in my room, just plugging the guitar and the mic into a little soundboard, and then right into the camera mic. So, it was a really simple set up. Anyway, I hope that you will like the song, and the main thing is I hope Mark has an awesome birthday,” he finished.
