Before he passed away in January 2023, Crosby released his final studio album named ‘For Free’. The album, which features ten songs and is 37 minutes long, peaked at No.2 on the UK Independent Albums chart.
Crosby’s previous work includes seven solo studio albums, as well as albums with various bands, such as The Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
When asked about the British musicians who have influenced his career, Crosby listed several names. The list includes David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler. He mentioned that The Beatles were his favorite band back in the day and that they had changed his life forever.
He also praised David Gilmour, saying that he has a wonderful personality. Crosby further stated that Mark Knopfler is a great guitarist, singer, and songwriter, showing his respect for the iconic guitarist and revealing how much he admires Knopfler’s work.
In the interview, Crosby also discussed his album ‘For Free’. He shared his opinions about the songs on it, as well as his songwriting process. Crosby’s honest and introspective lyrics often address themes such as love, loss, and social justice.
He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Once as a member of The Byrds and once as a member of Crosby, Stills & Nash. Crosby is also a noted activist, who has been involved in various social and political causes throughout his career.
He said: “Well know, I have, I mean, until I discovered Steely Dan, The Beatles were my favorite band… and they changed my life; there’s no question they changed my life. Absolutely wonderful artists. Then you’ve got later people, like David Gilmour – a big influence on me.
I think he’s a wonderful musician and a wonderful guy. Knopfler – what a guitar player; what a writer, what a singer. I love a number of British artists, frankly. Still do.”
