Ten years ago, on May 5, 2013, former Dire Straits lead guitarist and vocalist Mark Knopfler had a concert at the Arena Zagreb in Croatia. That was his third visit to Croatia after performing twice previously with Dire Straits in the summer of 1983.
At the time, Dire Straits played a sold-out concert in Zagreb. When Mark visited Zagreb in 2013, he was promoting his seventh solo studio album, “Privateering,” on his tour of Croatia.
In this blog post, we want to share an interesting story about the driver who drove Mark Knopfler in Croatia when he visited in 2013. Stjepan Bedic is an accomplished aerospace enthusiast and a captain on large passenger jets. He has 6,500 flight hours and has flown to 300 airports in 70 countries.
Furthermore, with 20 years of experience, he has been extensively involved in various aviation projects and has played a significant role in the development of aviation regulations in Croatia. In addition to this, he has led an international team in the Google Lunar X Prize competition and has contributed to the design, production, and test flights of an experimental ultralight airplane.

Currently, he serves as the CEO of ETF Airways D.O.O. His specialties include project management, aerospace engineering, and flying passenger jets.
The video blog in which Stjepan appears is about sending the Croatian flag into space. Branimir Kamber is a well-known YouTuber from Croatia, and he recorded the video for his professional YouTube channel. The video is very interesting, especially if you understand Croatian.
In one part of the video, Branimir asked Stjepan about famous people he has driven. Here is their conversation:
Branimir: “Did you drive Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits?”
Stjepan: “Yes, I did.”
Branimir: “Did you take a picture with him?”
Stjepan: “Yes, I did. He’s a great person.”
Branimir: “Who else have you driven among these famous stars?”
Stjepan: “I have driven Armin van Buuren, and he even called us on stage to join him while he was performing. I have also driven DJ Tiesto.”
As a blog, we contacted Stjepan and asked him to share some interesting information about his experience with Mark Knopfler. Unfortunately, Stjepan said he couldn’t reveal anything. He said: “Hello, and thanks for the message that you sent to me. Actually, I am a VIP pilot and he was my passenger, but I am not sure if I am allowed to give any details.
