In 1984 one of the founders of Dire Straits – John Illsley has released his first solo studio album. The whole album was recorded at Parkgate Studios in East Sussex and later was mixed at the Air Studios in London. John Illsley alongside Phill Brown were the producers of the album.

It could be said that Never Told a Soul was the first solo project for John Illsley. Some of his friends as Phil Palmer, Terry Williams, Chris White, Bobby Valentino, and Mark Knopfler were part of the project. Thanks to them, the album got its crystal tone, and some of the songs sounded similar to the Dire Straits style.

The third song of this album has the same name as the album – “Never Told a Soul”. An interesting fact is that Mark Knopfler has played the guitar on this song. Also, he was part of the music video where he played the solo on acoustic guitar.

Today we want to share the video where Mark Knopfler has actually played that solo. The video below is a very rare and old music video. Also is the last footage that exists from this song online on the internet.

Unfortunately, the length of the video is 1 minute and 40 seconds. You’ll be able to see how Mark Knopfler played the solo of the song, with long hair and wearing a shirt and beret.
