A while ago, on our Facebook Fan Page, we got one video from a young guitar player named Aurelien Roduit. He made his own cover version of “Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits on electric guitar.
Aurelien is a young guitar player from Switzerland from Valais, and he is 18 years old. He started to play guitar when he was 10 years old, but he is not a professional guitar player or musician. His first band was named “Frozen Sword” and they played heavy metal, which Aurelien had 2 albums and one album made by himself and the other in a professional studio.
Officially for Dire Straits Blog, we communicated with Aurelien and we asked him a couple questions. Down below is his video and questions.
“I enjoy listening to Dire Straits! This music is so good to listen to at work or in the car with my friends. Brothers in Arms is a special song for me and I had some positive memories when I listen to that song”, said Aurelien.
DSB: Are you a professional musician or guitar player?
Aurelien: I am not a professional musician, but I really love the music and guitars. I had a band named “Frozen Sword” which I have two albums. One is made by myself, and the other is made in the professional studio. With “Frozen Sword” I had a lot of shows and we played in many rock n’ roll places like pubs and other clubs. Now I have a new band, which I am at the beginning with.
DSB: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Aurelien: In my spare time I like to play heavy metal songs with my friends and drinking beer, or maybe practice on my guitar and compose some new songs.
DSB: We can see from the videos that you are a really good guitarist, when and where did you learn to play guitar?
Aurelien: So, I started to play on guitar when I was a little kid since my 10 years…firstly I started with a professional teacher for guitar and then I continue to learn by myself.
DSB: What kind of music do you like and who are your favorite music bands/artists?
Aurelien: I love and I prefer the metal genre of music. But I listen to heavy, trash, death…My favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Sodom but also I like bands like Dire Straits and Status Quo. My guitar hero is Janick Gers from Iron Maiden. This guy is just crazy haha.
DSB: When was the first time when you listened to a song from Dire Straits and which song was that?
Aurelien: The first song by Dire Straits that I ever listen to was “Walk of Life”, an amazing song…that was in the car of my dad when I was 7 years old! The first song that I learn from Dire Straits was “Sultans of Swing”.
DSB: Which are your favorite classic songs from Dire Straits and how many cover versions of Dire Straits’ songs have you made?
Aurelien: I have few favorite songs from Dire Straits first that is “Sultans of Swing”, “Heavy Fuel” and “Brothers In Arms” of course. I have made two cover versions from “Sultans of Swing” and “Walk of Life”.

“My motto in life is my girlfriend, she is my motivation and my dream! My dream also is to play guitar around the world with my band and live with that dream. For Dire Straits, I want just to say that they are one of the greatest bands of all time, so listen to them till the end”, finished Aurelien.
