Dire Straits fans around the world continue to be inspired by the legendary guitar style of Mark Knopfler. Many musicians have learned from his unique fingerpicking technique, and Turkish guitarist Timucin Toprak is one of them.
Timucin Toprak is a musician, songwriter, and guitarist from Istanbul, Turkey. Born in 1980, he started playing guitar when he was only 15 years old. Over the years, he developed his own style while staying deeply connected to the music that inspired him.
Our team discovered Timucin’s work through Instagram, especially his impressive guitar solo performance of “Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits.
Timucin has always been a big fan of Dire Straits and Pink Floyd. He explained that Mark Knopfler’s guitar style had a strong influence on him from an early age.
“I’m a big fan of Dire Straits and Pink Floyd. When I was a kid, the guitar style of Mark Knopfler really impressed me. My favorite song is ‘Telegraph Road,’” he said.
That influence can clearly be heard in his performance of “Sultans of Swing.” The song is known for its unforgettable guitar parts, and Timucin pays special attention to the details that make Knopfler’s playing so unique.
Fingerpicking Style and Fender Stratocaster Sound

“I am currently interested in my own music compositions, and I love listening to Dire Straits and playing their songs,” he added.
