“Layla” is a classic hit song by Eric Clapton. This emotional song has marked Clapton’s career. Perhaps, this is one of the most beautiful rock ballads ever.

We should not talk about who Eric Clapton is, because we all know who is he as well as his music. Today, we would like to introduce new musical talent, guitarist, songwriter, and probably a big fan of Dire Straits.

Laszlo Buring is a 25-years-old musician, guitarist, and producer from the Netherlands. On his YouTube channel, you can find many interesting adaptations and performances of famous songs. Also, you can find some of his original music, fingerstyle arrangements, covers, and backing tracks.

In this blog post we share his performance of the song “Layla”, but as if Mark Knopfler had written it. The video was published on May 22, 2021, and reached a large number of positive reactions. At this moment, the video has more than 500,000 views, 1,700 comments, and 30,000 likes.

As he wrote, for this video he used the song “Lady Writer” by Dire Straits as the base for this track, since the chord progression of the chorus is pretty much the same. All parts of the video are played by Laszlo, including drums, electric and acoustic guitar, organ and bass as well as vocals.

“I incorporated some of the backing guitar parts from the original, but I didn’t want it to sound too full. Since it would sound less and less like Dire Straits. So, I had to find some middle ground. For the final solo, I used some classic Knopfler licks, combined with the main riff and some improvisation.”

If you want to hear more of Laszlo’s covers, lessons, or original music, feel free to check his YouTube channel and share this post with your friends.
