In March 2020, they have been published their song called “So Far Away – COVID 19” which was inspired by the events because of Coronavirus. You can click here to listen to that song.
Back then, Reuben has said that they are working on their new song “Master of the Strings” which includes 14 Dire Straits songs in the lyric.
Today we want to share that song with all our fans, exclusively on Dire Straits Blog. Richard Benham the lead guitarist in the band, was in the mood to share with us a few facts about the new song. He said:
“This band just loves to playing the music of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler. I have recorded our new song as a tribute to Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits called – ‘Master of the Strings.’ My wife Tracy wrote the lyrics and included fourteen Dire Straits song titles in it. I recorded the song in my home studio called Utopia named after my dad’s first band. We have released the song and it’s available on Spotify.”
“I’ve tried to create the sound of Mark Knopfler using my red Fender Stratocaster and my Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar. I would just love Mr. Mark Knopfler to hear this,” he added.
Besides that, Richard share with us another story. He is a lucky man because he has meet the ex-bassist from Dire Straits, John Illsley. “I was also lucky to meet John Illsley at a local concert,” he said. Here is the picture that he sent to us from two of them.
To sum up, here is the music video for the song “Master of the Strings” with the lyric below. Enjoy and give us some comment on what do you think about this song.
Lyric of the song!
I heard that as young boy
He would often spend the day
Wandering round Newcastle
And the nearby Whitley Bay
With no idea in that young boys mind
He’d go to greater things
And as he grew, got older
Become master of the strings
Where d’you think you’re going
You need to hang around
Don’t think that you can Skateaway
Not listen to the sound
The sound inspired by Dire Straits
The true Sultans of Swing
Why Worry if it’s not for you
Listen to us sing
We asked a Lady Writer
Who once had followed me home
To put her pen to paper
And write a Dire Straits poem
She took me in the Tunnel of Love
At the local fair
An ageing Romeo and Juliet
We make a lovely pair
Her song took us So Far Away
Playing in the Wild West End
They sing our song On Every Street
Down to the Waterline and round the bend
We’re earning Money for Nothing
Playing music we like best
Me and my Brothers in Arms
Playing Solid Rock, no time to rest
Wanna walk down Shaftesbury Avenue
I’ll call it my walk of life
My head repeating dire straits songs
That cut like a Six Blade Knife
Their music at a party
We’re Twisting by the Pools
He is a Local Hero
On guitar he rules
We’re known as Sultans of Swingers
We want to honour the sound
Played by Dire Straits
When they were first around
We keep the sound authentic
Play as close as we can
We do our best to honour
The music and the man
