On July 9, 1977, Dire Straits had their first ever gig as a band at a punk festival in Deptford. At the time they went by the name Café Racers, and the electricity for the festival was provided via a power lead into their flat.
Since then have passed 43 years and today we would like to share with all of you one amazing video.
“This is my bedroom here, ha-ha. And I never thought that anything like this might happened,” Mark Knopfler has said in the video. Mark Knopfler has also added: “We had a lot of happy times here.”
On 3 December 2009 – Dire Straits were honored with the PRS for Music Heritage Award. A special plaque was erected at Farrer House, Church Street, Deptford where the original group with Mark and David Knopfler, John Illsley, and Pick Withers once shared a council flat and performed their first ever gig in 1977.
Take a look at the short video below where Mark Knopfler shared his thoughts about the plaque. There’s been much speculation about the size of the spectators in the front row… what’s your theory?
